California’s AB 60 Driving License for Undocumented Immigrants

One of the common causes of detention among the immigrants without any documents is being pulled over for driving without a driving license.  In addition to violating the California vehicle code, the immigrant can be cited or detained which can possibly trigger removal proceedings against the immigrant.  

There is good news for immigrations residing within the State of California.  Generally, to obtain a driving license in California a person must provide proof of legal residency to DMV. However, Assembly Bill 60, the Safe and Responsible Driver's Act, established a new type of driver's license: the AB 60 license.
